Should you buy a KGM Torres?

Probably not, no. Don’t get us wrong, there are good reasons to buy the Torres such as a big boot, good rear seat space, KGM’s reliability record, a five-year or 100,000 mile warranty, and friendly, local dealers. However, the many negative aspects of the car outweigh the positives by quite a margin.

To put it simply, it just doesn’t feel as polished as key rivals such as the MG HS, Skoda Kodiaq or the Nissan X-Trail. All have a plusher interior with more responsive infotainment, and drive far, far better. The Torres is lumbered with a weak engine that’s connected to a clunky automatic gearbox leading to a thirst for petrol akin to a much more powerful SUV.

Factor in an uncomfortable ride and wooly handling, and you can soon see why the Torres has such a low score and no place in our list of the best family SUVs.

What we like

The huge boot and spacious rear seats make it a practical choice, regardless of whether you have two or four-wheel drive. It also comes with plenty of standard equipment and should be a dependable choice. Even if it does go wrong, KGM’s warranty is long.

What we don’t like

Given the poor ride and handling, not to mention KGM’s position as a niche brand, we’d have hoped for a lower starting price. A new engine and gearbox is desperately needed.
