Parkers overall rating: 3.5 out of 5 3.5

The Sedona scored a respectable four stars in official Euro NCAP crash tests, although other people carriers like the Renault Espace and Peugeot 807 were awarded the maximum five stars. Front, side and curtain airbags are standard, and the TS comes with active head restraints which help reduce the risk of whiplash injuries in rear end accident. However, Kia does not offer an electronic stability control system.

The Sedona comes with individual second and third row seats all of which are removable. This isn't quite as useful as other people carriers (like the Chrysler Grand Voyager or Ford Galaxy) which have flat folding systems, but it still gives the Kia good versatility. Unfortunately with all the seats in place boot space is very limited with only 214 litres available - that's less than the average small hatchback, including Kia's own Rio.

As a five-seater you get a far more useful 1,068 litres while removing all the seats gives you a van-like space of almost 3,500 litres. There's plenty of storage too including a dual cupholder, a CD case below the gear lever, a sunglasses holder in the roof, large door pockets and bottle holders. The LS and TS models also get a table with four cupholders between the front seats.

Euro NCAP Rating

The Kia Sedona (06-12) was tested by Euro NCAP in and received the following safety ratings:

  • Adult Occupant - 4 stars
  • Child Occupant - 3 stars
  • Vulnerable road users - 1 stars

Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
