Should you buy one?

The list of small, premium MPVs is tiny, so if the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is too firm for you, the B-Class is your only other option. In most regards though, the BMW is the better car and the stiffer suspension does at least make it feel a sharper thing when cornering.

We would point out that a Volkswagen Touran is even more practical for the money, as is Mercedes’ seven-seat GLB, though.

What we like

It’s comfortable on the motorway and reasonably efficient, too.

What we don’t like

The boot isn’t as big as you’d hope, rivals are more practical and it gets pricey as you move up the range.
