Mercedes-Benz EQE boot space, practicality and safety

2022 onwards (change model)
Practicality rating: 3 out of 53.0

  • Loads of room up front
  • Could be larger in the rear
  • Boot space okay for a saloon

How much space is there?

The EQE is a four-door, five-seat saloon. It’s roomy, front and rear, but without having the sort of surplus space you might associate with a luxury limo.

The tape measure says it’s roomier inside than the Mercedes E-Class, and it feels it, but you don’t get the sensation that you’re driving a bulky, bloated car.

Large loads are dealt with via a rear bench that can split and fold and everyone inside has a good view out.

Space is ample in the rear but it is tight for the middle seat occupant.

Boot space and storage

Boot size is a so-so 430 litres or 895 litres with the rear seats folded, but it is at least well shaped. It is lacking in underfloor storage however.

Saloons are never going to be the best choice for practicality, but compared to other saloons the EQE is not too bad. But the BMW i4 comes with a hatchback boot opening, which is much easier to access and is broadly more practical.

Is it easy to park?

It’s not the easiest. The high up dashboard makes it harder to see the front extremities, while rear visibility is hampered by thick rear pillars.

It does at least benefit from a standard rear-view camera and parking sensors, as well as blind-spot monitoring.

Safety

  • Five out of five from Euro NCAP
  • Loads of safety tech
  • Two Isofix points

European testing authority Euro NCAP awarded the Mercedes EQE a full five out of five stars. It scored particularly highly in the occupant protection tests

Standard fit features include automatic emergency braking and active evasive steering, which can change lanes to avoid a crash. It has two Isofix points, both on the rear outer seats.
