Should you buy one?

The Mercedes EQE SUV certainly has a few things going for it. There’s plenty of space inside for people, and the boot is large enough for most. Even base models get plenty of equipment, while the performance and range offered by the batteries and motors is good if not exceptional when compared to other electric SUVs.

There are too many flaws to forgive for the price, though. Interior quality is a bit disappointing in a few areas, and the ride is just too uncontrolled. Given what it costs, we’d much rather have the more luxurious and comfortable BMW iX or the well-built Audi Q8 E-Tron.

What we like

Let’s be honest, even the 350 is quick enough for family duties, while the range and rapid charging abilities should make long distance travel relatively painless. The handling is surprisingly tidy given the suspension’s wayward tendencies over bumps and its spacious inside.

What we don’t like

More than anything, the ride. It’s too easily caught out by road imperfections, while body movements over bigger undulations can cause travel sickness in your passengers. It’s also hard to find a driving position that suits, and very expensive.
