There’s no shortage of safety technology designed to keep the driver out of trouble. The Porsche Cayenne safety kitlist includes get stability control, traction control and optional chassis control. There’s also front, side and curtain airbags and optional rear side airbags and lane change assist.

By 2014 the Cayenne gained standard-fit Multi Collision Brake, which applies the brakes to the vehicle after a collision to lessen the likelihood of colliding with another if the driver is too injured to react themselves.

This is a two-tonne monster that shouldn’t have any truck with practicality at all but it is surprisingly suitable for two-child families that have a lot of paraphernalia to lug around. The new Cayenne is 48mm longer and the wheelbase has been increased by 40mm. That means there’s more legroom in the back and more loadspace in the boot. Now the Cayenne offers 670 litres of bootspace and 1,780 litres with the rear seats down – an increase of 130 litres over the old car (Hybrid S 580-1,690 litres). When you compare it to its main rival, the BMW X6, it absolutely trumps it for bootspace and that extra room does make the Cayenne an extremely useful load-lugger.

In 2014 the rear seat was upgraded to offer more support, with individually sculpted rear chairs. Add to that air suspension models have the ability to drop by 52mm at the rear to ease loading, and its these models that prove the most practicality.
