Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 32 - 56 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The diesel engines are most frugal, give good reliability and will hold onto their value the best while Renault parts and servicing are reasonable. Insurance groups are reasonable too but avoid the 2.0T which is expensive to run. Renault dealers aren’t renowned for their customer care but servicing is reasonably priced.

The Scenic is an environmentally friendly choice for green buyers. With an average of 169g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are quite low for a people carrier. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 1.5-litre diesel, which is one of the greenest models in the range. The range is also fairly economical, averaging 42mpg.

Similarly to the Megane – on which it’s based on – there have been numerous problems reported with the Scenic. Many disgruntled owners have informed us of annoying niggles, such as oil leaks, electrical issues and battery faults. See our Car Check section for full details.
