2019 Skoda Karoq rear seat space

No matter how big the build of the driver and passengers, the Karoq is capable of accommodating four in comfort. There is room for a fifth, but if you’ll frequently be using the middle rear seat then think about speccing the Varioflex seating system which adds a full-size centre seat (standard on SE L cars onwards).

As well as affording a separate middle seat, the Varioflex layout also enables users to slide forward or remove all rear seats to create more luggage space. Just beware that removing the seats isn’t an easy task and will take some getting used to – not to mention some strong arms.

Another useful feature found on other Skodas which has made its way on to the Karoq is the fold-down picnic tables on the back of the front seats. Part of a wider range of practicality features, the Karoq also boasts front door pockets capable of swallowing a 1.5-litre bottle of water, removable bins and some handy hooks in the bootspace.

2019 Skoda Karoq practicality

It might be an SUV but the Karoq really isn’t that tricky to park, especially with the all-round parking sensors and reversing camera fitted. The steering is light at low speeds, the blindspots aren’t too intrusive and the driving position gives a decent view of the car’s extremities.

If you tick the right option box automatic parking is also available, meaning you can simply pull up next to a space and have the car drive into it at the press of a button.

Whether you opt for the standard-spec SE car without Varioflex rear seats or pay a little extra for the SE L or Karoq Edition models, the Karoq boasts impressive levels of bootspace.

2019 Skoda Karoq Sportline boot space

With the standard seats fitted there is 521 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place, rising to 1,630 litres with them folded down. However, when fitted with the sliding Varioflex seats, rear-seats-up bootspace is anywhere between 479 litres to 588 litres depending on how far the seats are slid forward.

Fold the Varioflex seats down and bootspace is slightly less than the regular set-up at 1,605 litres. Remove the seats entirely, however, and there is a gargantuan 1,810 litres on offer.

Disappointingly, the variable height boot floor isn’t available in conjunction with Varioflex rear seating. Hooks for shopping and a partition net are also available for the Karoq’s boot.

How safe is it?

  • Solid five-star Euro NCAP rating
  • Standard-fit autonomous emergency braking
  • Front passenger seat Isofix mounting is optional

The Skoda Karoq achieved, as expected, a full five-star crash-test rating when it was rated by Euro NCAP at the end of 2017.

As well as a host of airbags, the Karoq also boasts the usual plethora of safety systems and driving assistance tech. This includes standard-fit front assist which scans ahead of the vehicle and automatically applies the brakes should an imminent collision be detected.

A driver fatigue monitor can also detect when the driver is showing signs of tiredness and will advise them to stop for a break at the earliest opportunity. What’s more, if the car is in an accident the doors are automatically unlocking so aid the quick exit of the vehicle.

Optional safety and/or driver assistance technology includes adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blindspot monitoring and traffic jam assist (controls the steering, accelerator and brakes in a traffic jam).

How many Isofix car seats fit?

There’s two standard Isofix mountings on the outer rear seats, plus an optional one on the front passenger seat.

Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
