Back in the 1980s and 1990s the Japanese company was known for building and selling a variety of sports cars. The Toyota MR2 was one of the most popular selling versions that appealed not just for its dynamic drive but also for its cheap running costs and reliability.
The car was first launched in 1985 and was a two-door coupe model with pop-up headlights. It had a very angular look with sharp cut lines as well as an open airy glass area that made the cabin feel spacious.
This version was small and light, so even when it was powered by the smaller of the petrol engines (a 1.6-litre unit) it still felt nippy and agile. It was fun to drive and yet running costs weren’t hard on your bank balance not least because the car and engine were reliable. It was so popular that it enjoys a fan base today.
