MAN TGE dimensions (2017-on)
The MAN TGE panel van is available in three roof heights and three bodylengths, split between two wheelbases. There are also three gross vehicle weight (GVW) options. All of which is detailed below on this page.
In addition to the regular panel van, MAN sells the TGE as a crew cab and combi with an additional row of seats (available to order late 2018), plus chassis cab variants with single cab and crew cab accommodation.
A variety of factory conversions are also available, alongside a UK range of Vans to Go conversions from approved suppliers, launched at the CV Show 2018.

With up to 18.4 cubic metres (cu m) of capacity, the MAN TGE offers one of the largest load spaces in the van market, and has a range of accessories available to transform this from a simple cargo space to a highly functional working environment.
Examples of this include:
- Optional ‘universal’ load floor, pre-engineered to accept popular types of racking
- Choice of wall lining panels in wood or composite
- Numerous screw holes for shelving
- Optional load lashing rails for the floor, sides, ceiling and bulkhead, in addition to the standard lashing points
- Optional interior roof racks
- Standard LED load area lighting
Front-wheel drive (FWD) models have a sill loading height – or step-in height – 100mm lower than rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions, due to not having to make space for a powered rear axle. This is worth keeping in mind if you regularly access the back, for instance when doing multi-drop parcel courier delivery work, as it places less strain on the driver.
A step is available to reduce the entry effort further if required.
The side door opening is a vast 1,311mm wide, while the rear doors can be opened to 180 degrees or 270 degrees.
A full-height steel bulkhead is fitted as standard, with various window options available if required.
MAN TGE exterior dimensions
The TGE panel van comes in three bodylengths:
- Standard (S)
- Long (L)
- Extra Long (EL)
And three roof heights:
- Normal (N)
- High (H)
- Super High (SH)
Standard length models use a shorter wheelbase (SWB), while the Long and Extra Long versions use a longer wheelbase (LWB).

MAN TGE load area dimensions and capacity
Even the smallest model can swallow five Euro pallets, with the larger versions accommodating six in a choice of configurations.

Note that the 100mm lower sill loading height – or step-in height – of the FWD models also delivers an additional 100mm of headroom in the load area, creating more space for taller items.
For similar reasons, FWD TGEs also have a higher maximum load volume, spec-for-spec.
MAN sells the TGE in three gross vehicle weight (GVW) options: 3,000 kg (3.0 tonnes), 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes) and 5,000kg (5.0 tonnes) – the higher the GVW, the greater the available payload; you can only drive a vehicle up to 3.5t GVW on a standard UK car licence.
MAN TGE payload
Maximum payload is also influenced by engine type, bodysize, drivetrain and fitted equipment. Front-wheel drive versions have the highest payload ratings, spec-for-spec, but rear-wheel drive models are best for towing and traction when fully loaded. So consider your priorities carefully.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the official payload ratings for each MAN TGE panel van bodylength and drivetrain type:

For further reference, the maximum payload for a 3.5t MAN TGE is 1,333kg (as of June 2018).
This applies to a Standard length front-wheel drive model with the 102hp engine; 140hp variants are rated at 1,324kg and 177hp at 1,315kg. Opt for the High roof option and this will fall further due to the additional weight of the van’s body.
Absolute maximum payload is 2,515kg, available from the 5.0t GVW rear-wheel drive TGE with the Standard body and 122hp engine. Every 5.0t variant can carry over 2.2 tonnes.

MAN TGE towing capacity
All TGE’s have an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.
Braked towing capacity is either 2,500kg or 3,000kg for FWD and AWD models.
Rear-wheel drive versions all tow 3,500kg.
Those heavy-duty 5.0-tonne RWD variants have gross train weights – the total combined legal weight of van, trailer and payload – up to 8,000kg (8.0 tonnes).
