Should you buy a Vauxhall Mokka Electric?

The Vauxhall Mokka Electric a bit better than before, but we still wouldn’t recommend one. It was never going to be easy to pull the Mokka up the ranks of small SUVs without a serious rethink of the way it’s packaged, and sadly the changes can’t make it competitive. In a class frequented by families where practicality is so important the Mokka Electric simply doesn’t offer enough room.

And then there’s the competition. Since the introduction of the Mokka-e back in 2020, the small electric SUV class has exploded with offerings, and there is a long list of cars that are better. The Mokka Electric won’t be challenging the Kia EV3 as our favourite small family EV that’s for sure. When the Vauxhall’s biggest selling point is jazzy styling, we know it’s in trouble.

The Mokka Electric also faces and issue in the form of the Vauxhall Grandland Electric and its lean price tag designed to slip under the Luxury Car Supplement of £40,000. It’s a better car with more space and a longer driving range for not that much more money per month. It would certainly tempt us.

What we like

The freshly brewed Mokka has lost none of those space-age looks and now has the infotainment tech to back it up. It’s comfortable to drive and perfectly equipped to handle the ruined roads we have in the UK. It’s also refined at motorway speeds.

What we don’t like

The rear and boot space are still meh, especially in a class favoured by families. It’s not particularly enjoyable to drive and it’s not particularly good value for money. The cheapest example starts north of £30,000 and doesn’t have the slew of features some rivals offer.
