Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 29 - 55 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Zafira is pretty good value – although you should aim for a discount if buying new. Running costs are low, especially if you go for the diesel engine while servicing intervals are quite long – a full service is needed only once every two years or 40,000 miles. The model has also been designed to keep the cost of crash repairs down and as a result insurance groups start are low

The Zafira performs adequately on the eco front and with an average of 162g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are about average compared to the competition. The greenest model to go for is the 1.7 CDTi ecoFLEX – it emits 139g/km of CO2 and can return 53mpg.

The 2004 Astra – on which this model is based – has a decent reputation for reliability and durability and the Zafira is the same. It’s not without it’s faults though but most tend to be niggles rather than anything serious.
