Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 27 - 35 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Generally, G60 and VR6 are costlier to run than the others, and although the Corrado is based on the Mk 2 Golf, specialist parts are reasonably expensive to replace. One major hidden cost is that the supercharger – exclusive to G60 models – needs to be overhauled every 60,000 miles, which is both pricey and irritating. The insurance groupings are expectedly high, meaning that quotes may seem meteoric, especially for younger or inexperienced drivers.

Overall, fully maintained Volkswagens will run for many miles, if driven sensibly and should be very reliable. Nonetheless, many examples are abused or neglected and there have been a fair few problems reported regarding the Corrado’s electrics, gearbox synchromesh and clutch.
