With stylish looks, a clever metal folding roof and an upmarket interior, the Eos is a top choice for the well-heeled drop-top buyer. What differentiates this one from the likes of the Vauxhall Astra TwinTop and Renault Megane CC is that the roof is steel and glass - and even incorporates a sunroof, which gives a light and airy feel to the cabin even when the roof is up and it's pouring with rain.

It's powered by some of Volkswagen's best engines including a fuel-sipping but strong diesel and the 2.0-litre turbo that's also found in the 2005 Golf GTI. But if you're looking to save money, the low emissions Bluemotion Technology model, introduced in 2010, is the one to go for.
