Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer engines, drive and performance

- Three versions offered
- Up to 424 miles range
- Fast GTX option
What power options are there?
The line-up consists of Pro, Pro S and GTX versions. The Pro uses a single rear-mounted motor with 286hp and 545Nm, delivering 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds. The Pro S adds a larger 86kWh battery for longer range but is otherwise similar in performance.
The GTX sits at the top of the range. It adds a second motor on the front axle for four-wheel drive, raising power to 340hp and torque to 560Nm. The 0-62mph sprint takes 5.5 seconds, making it the most powerful Volkswagen estate ever sold.
Range is a standout feature. The Pro manages 373 miles, while the Pro S stretches to 424 miles. Even the GTX achieves more than 360 miles, which is impressive given its performance focus.

What’s it like to drive?
- Superb ride comfort
- Accurate steering
- GTX adds pace
The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer majors on comfort. Ride quality is excellent, especially when fitted with the optional adaptive dampers, which let you pick from 15 settings. In its softest modes the car glides over rough roads with ease.
Steering is light but accurate, making it easy to place the car even on narrow roads. Body control is well-judged, so the car never feels floaty or unsettled. Brakes are strong and predictable, with smooth regeneration available to top up the battery.
Noise levels are very low, with just a touch more wind noise than the hatchback due to the longer body. It’s still quieter than most rivals, and makes long-distance cruising effortless. The GTX version adds stronger acceleration and slightly sharper steering, but the differences aren’t dramatic. Unless you really want four-wheel drive, the Pro and Pro S are better value.
Overall, the ID.7 Tourer drives exactly as you’d want from a long-range electric estate: smooth, refined and undemanding.
