Volkswagen Tayron verdict

Should you buy one?
Yes. If you’re looking for a well-built, spacious, and comfortable seven-seater family SUV, the Volkswagen Tayron is an excellent choice. While it lacks driver engagement, it excels in practicality and refinement. But despite those brickbats, it looks set to challenge the Skoda Kodiaq as the best option in this class – depending on finance.
The Tayron’s very anonymity and crushing competence is why it appeals so much – here at last is a VW that feels well developed and crafted to be exactly what it needs to be and nothing more. It’s a car that honours all those Volkswagens that have gone before, channelling its inner seventh-generation Golf (an all-time great).
What we like
The Volkswagen Tayron excels in comfort, refinement, and practicality. Its spacious interior, double-glazed windows and adaptive dampers ensure a quiet, smooth ride. Flexible seating, clever storage, and a well-equipped cabin add to its appeal. The improved infotainment system and strong safety features make it a family-friendly, stress-free SUV.
What we don’t like
While practical, the Tayron lacks excitement. The third-row seats are cramped, and the interior storage isn’t as innovative as some rivals. Performance is adequate rather than thrilling, and the sheer number of drive and suspension settings feels unnecessary. No fully electric option also limits its appeal in an EV-focused market.
