Volvo EX30 verdict

What we like
The Volvo EX30 has a lot going for it, with punchy acceleration – particularly in the Twin Motor Performance version, making it one of the quickest Volvos ever. Inside, it delivers a minimalist design that, despite some unconventional material choices, manages to feel both modern and inviting. The Google-based infotainment system is another highlight, offering responsive performance and useful app integration, including Spotify.
What we don’t like
Volvo’s obsession with minimalism has led to an over-reliance on the touchscreen for even basic functions like turning on the headlights, which is more distracting than it should be. The chassis feels undercooked, with a bouncy ride, light steering, and electronics working overtime to maintain control. Worse, there’s no proper driver display, leaving key info out of sight – a surprising flaw for a safety-focused brand.
If buying on a budget is your priority, then we’d still recommend looking at the MG4 EV before plumping for the Volvo – and if you want the biggest range in the most sensible package, a Volkswagen ID.3 takes some beating. We’ll look forward to trying the EX30 back-to-back with its competition soon.
