With the hood up, rear visibility is slightly poorer than in the saloon, but it’s not a big problem. Otherwise it’s a great example of clear design, simple controls and refinement, with a truly upmarket feel to it. The instrument dials are easy to read and features like the clever trip computer are straightforward to operate.

The ride is a little harsh at low speeds, but it becomes smoother when driven faster. The back seats are really only designed for two adults, but rear space is superior to that of the BMW 3-Series Convertible. The seats themselves are comfortable and with the windows up and the rear wind deflector in place wind buffeting is minimal in the front when you have the roof down.

Those in the rear will need to be hardier unless it’s a hot day but with the hood up it’s, virtually as quiet as the saloon.
