Audi makes beautiful interiors and the S4 is just as sumptuous on the inside as you’d expect. The black and red colour scheme gives it an understatedly sporty appearance and the attention to detail means the car feels suitably special. From the steering wheel and gear lever, to the start/stop button and MMI control dial, the main controls feel a touch more sophisticated than the standard A4.

The interior is lined with either brushed aluminium, carbon fibre, birch wood or stainless steel mesh inlays and finished with thick-stitched leather for a top-class look.

Although the S4 is a high-performance sports car first and foremost, it’s still comfortable enough to make long trips on the motorway painless. The supportive seats hug occupants without being unbearably stiff and the cocooned cabin is so hushed on the move, that it can actually be tricky to gauge how fast you’re travelling unless you glance down at the speedometer.

The Audi is longer than its predecessor, meaning more room for all, especially those in the back.
