Audi A6 e-tron Avant boot space, practicality and safety

2024 onwards (change model)
Practicality rating: 4 out of 54.0

• Average boot space
• Rear seat compromises
• Good cabin storage

How much space is there?

There’s ample space up front for tall drivers, with a wide range of adjustment on the seats and a low driving position. Visibility is good out of the front and sides, though that plunging rear screen can make over-the-shoulder glances tricky.

Rear passenger space isn’t quite as impressive. Headroom is okay thanks to the estate roofline, but the high floor (caused by the battery underneath) means you sit with your knees higher than ideal. This is most noticeable on long journeys and may cause discomfort for taller passengers.

Compared with the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer and BMW i5 Touring, the Audi falls short on legroom. The BMW is a little better, but the Volkswagen absolutely smashes it. If rear-seat comfort is your priority, one of those will suit you better.

Audi A6 Avant E-Tron boot space and storage

The boot measures a competitive 545 litres with the seats up, which expands to 1,700 litres when folded – making it a more practical shape than the sleeker Sportback version if you carry bulky items that occupy the space above the load cover. There’s a high loading lip, but the space itself is flat and wide.

You don’t get quite the flexibility of some rivals – no underfloor cable storage or sliding boot floor here – but there are useful hooks and tie-down points. Good news is that there’s a luggage area upfront, under the bonnet, for charging cables. If boot space is a priority, the ID.7 Tourer is slightly bigger overall.

Interior storage is good, with large door bins, a covered centre cubby, and a generously sized glovebox. The wireless charging pad is well positioned, and there are plenty of USB-C ports scattered around.

Is it easy to park?

Despite its size, the A6 Avant E-Tron is easy enough to park thanks to standard front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and optional 360-degree cameras that give a clear view. The steering is light at low speeds, and while the turning circle isn’t tight, it’s manageable.

Large windows and high-quality cameras make a big difference when parking in tight spots – although the sloping rear tailgate can make judging the back of the car slightly tricky. Some will find the digital rear view mirrors and screens impossible to park with – try before you buy.

Safety

  • Five-star Euro NCAP rating
  • Excellent driver assistance systems
  • Adaptive cruise on all models

The Audi A6 Avant E‑Tron has been officially crash‑tested by Euro NCAP in March 2025 and awarded a full five‑star rating. It scored an impressive 92 % for adult occupant protection and 91 % for child occupants, underlining its excellent safety pedigree, and making it one of the safest cars on sale.

It also registered 75 % for pedestrian and cyclist protection and 80 % in the safety‑assist category – testament to its quick autonomous braking, lane‑keeping systems and advanced Autonomous Emergency Braking tech. Compared with its rivals, it’s right at the top of the class for crash safety.

Every model includes adaptive cruise control, traffic‑sign recognition and a full suite of airbags. Higher trims add features like blind‑spot assist and a lane‑centering system – all of which operate smoothly once you’ve got used to the touch‑sensitive controls.
