Audi A6 e-tron boot space, practicality and safety

- Decent boot space
- Slightly compromised rear room
- Easy to load and live with
How much space is there?
Space in the front is more than adequate, with plenty of adjustment in the seats and steering wheel. You’ll be fine here even if you’re tall, with a commanding driving position and wide centre armrest.
Rear-seat room is more of a mixed bag. The sloping roofline cuts into headroom, particularly for passengers over six feet tall. And because the battery sits under the floor, the rear bench is high – so your knees are uncomfortably raised on longer journeys. An overhead rear light unit also sits exactly where a middle rear-seat passenger would sit, essentially making this seat useless for any adults even of average size.
The Volkswagen ID.7 offers significantly better rear passenger space and is worth considering if that’s a priority. If you want more room from your A6, the Avant version is a better bet.

Rear room is generous, but is trounced by the cheaper Volkswagen ID.7.
Audi A6 E-Tron boot space and storage
Boot space in the Sportback is 502 litres to the parcel shelf, which is respectable but not class-leading. Fold the seats and you’ll notice the estate has a far squarer shape and 92 litres more space overall. It stretches back a long way, though, and is more useful than traditional saloons, such as the BMW i5. Still, there’s no major intrusion from charging cables, which get their own 27-litre storage area under the bonnet. It’s useful, if a bit of a faff to open as you need to press the bonnet release lever every time.
Interior storage is decent – the glovebox is a good size, and there are lidded bins in the centre console. Door bins are on the small side and made of hard plastic, which feels a little cheap in an otherwise upmarket cabin.
Is it easy to park?
Visibility out of the front is fine, but that sloping rear does cut into over-the-shoulder vision. Thankfully, you get plenty of parking aids – even base-spec cars get front and rear sensors, plus a reversing camera. Higher trims add 360-degree cameras, which are clear and responsive.
You’ll want to avoid Audi’s optional digital side mirrors (included as part of the £5,495 Sound and Vision Pack Pro’ as they’re intuitive to use and are especially compromised when it comes to visibility when parking.
Safety
- Five-star Euro NCAP rating
- Excellent driver assist tech
- Adaptive cruise standard
The Audi A6 Sportback E-Tron has been officially crash-tested by Euro NCAP and awarded a full five-star rating, matching the Avant version tested in March 2025. It scored 92% for adult protection and 91% for child occupants, putting it at the very top of the class for crash safety.
Pedestrian and cyclist protection scored 75%, while its safety assist systems registered 80%. These figures are impressive, and reflect the strength of Audi’s latest autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping and traffic-sign recognition systems.
All models come with adaptive cruise control, front and rear sensors, and a full set of airbags. S Line and Edition 1 trims add extra features such as blind-spot assist and lane centring. Everything works smoothly in practice – once you’ve got used to the touch-sensitive steering wheel controls.
