Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 18 - 26 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

All the engines in the range are thirsty – you’ll get 26 mpg in everyday driving with the best model, while road tax and insurance won’t be cheap either. Audi parts and servicing are also expensive so it’s worth finding a good Audi or German car specialist to carry out any work, especially as cars get older. The aluminium body panels are pricey to replace or repair too.

With no diesel engines and plenty of high-power V8 units it’s no surprise that the A8 is not very eco-friendly. It’s average emissions of 308g/km of C02 are incredibly high and the range is not very economical either. The most frugal engine is the 2.8-litre which only manages just 26mpg.

Like most Audis the A8 is exceptionally well built, with no engine, gearbox or electrical problems. It does require regular and professional maintenance and servicing though.
