As standard the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe safety systems are many and varied. It’s for this reason we’d expect top marks from Euro NCAP crash tests. There are myriad airbags around the car, seatbelts with integrated belt latch tensioner, crash-activated head restraints at the front, run-flat tyres and a tyre defect indicator. Optional safety equipment includes adaptive headlights with cornering lights, high beam assist, park distance control, rear-view camera, a night vision camera, head-up display, active cruise control with stop and go function, rear-end collision warning with braking function, lane-change warning, lane departure warning, speed limit info and automatic emergency calling in the event of a crash.
Practicality is an important aspect of the Gran Coupe’s design. The interior is designed to seat four adults in comfort because the wheelbase is 113mm longer than that in the regular 6 Series Coupe and that gives you extra legroom in the back. There’s also a third ‘auxiliary’ seat in the rear that an adult could just about squeeze into for short journeys.
Boot space is 460 litres with the rear seats up, and 1,265 litres when using the through-loading system and folding rear seats.
