Dacia has bolstered the level of standard safety equipment on the Sandero, Sandero Stepway and Jogger to make them compliant with the latest European Global Safety Regulation 2 (GSR2) legislation. Plus, it’s fitted these safety upgrades with no extra cost to the consumer.

That means prices for the Dacia Sandero still start from £13,795, while the Sandero Stepway and Jogger continue to be priced from £15,295 and £18,295 respectively.

GSR2 rules state that all new cars must be fitted with a standard package of driver assistance technology. It forms part of the EU’s push to make cars safer for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

The EU’s attitude to safety tech is ‘evolve or die.’ Dacia has evolved.

This standard package includes a speed limiter, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and a driver drowsiness warning system.

Dacia has also added a new ‘My Safety’ hot key to all three cars. You can use it to set your preferred driver assistance settings and then jump to those preferences with just one button push each time the car is started.

Dacia’s decision to swallow the expense of the mandatory safety equipment is surprising. When Hyundai added the same tech to the i10, it was forced to pass the cost onto its buyers. Toyota, meanwhile, couldn’t justify the expense of re-engineering the GR86, so it simply pulled the car from its showrooms.

In addition to the safety tech, the Stepway gains a new Safari Beige paint finish.

This new roster of safety upgrades follows Dacia’s recent update for the Sandero, in which it received new range-topping Journey trim-level. The Sandero line-up has also received a choice of two new wheel designs and a fresh USB-C port up front.

Not to be outdone, the Sandero Stepway is now available in the Safari Beige paint you see in these images, while the Jogger Hybrid 140 is fitted with the same 7.0-inch instrument panel found on the third-generation Duster SUV.
