Welcome to Lease of the Week – your gateway to the best new car deal on the market. Join me, Ryan Gilmore, every week for a handpicked leasing deal that represents exceptional value for money on a car that we’ve tested and rated highly.

While car prices have risen sharply in recent years, leasing (or PCH) is now the most affordable way to get behind the wheel of a brand-new car. There are caveats; you don’t own the car and never build any equity – it’s a long rental. But where else can you find such pocket-friendly prices in 2025?

From £240 per month

Expert rating:

4.0
I couldn’t think of a better way to kick us off than with the Volkswagen Passat, a comfortable and spacious plug-in hybrid estate from as little as £240 per month. It looks like Volkswagen’s load-lugging estate isn’t selling well, which is a pity because we think it’s excellent; it’s probably the best Passat yet.

It’s now available as an estate only, which is no bad thing, as the 530 litres of boot space will prove to be ample for even a large family with many hobbies. Space for rear occupants is huge, too. The Passat is a knockout large family car. Where the Passat really shines is on the motorway. The levels of refinement and comfort on offer are tremendous; it’s perfect for a long-distance drive.

The biggest thorn in its side is the Skoda Superb, a car that uses the same platform and shares many of the Passat’s underpinnings and parts. The big Skoda is equally impressive and is a good few thousand pounds cheaper than the Volkswagen, making the Passat difficult to justify. Thankfully, that’s where the leasing rates come in.

I’ve seen prices as low as £240 per month for a Volkswagen Passat lease, but these deals involve a pretty hefty initial rental, close to £3,000. For me, the best deal slices that initial rental fee down to less than £1,800 and still comes in at less than £300 per month. It’s a two-year contract with a 6,000 annual mileage limit on an R-Line spec Passat.

This spec gets you such luxuries as heated and massaging front seats, three-zone climate control, LED Matrix headlights and a slew of advanced safety tech. In a nutshell, it’s a top-of-the-line model.

To put this excellent value into perspective, the deals for a Passat are better than for an equivalent plug-in hybrid Skoda Superb Estate. They’re also much keener than any other plug-in hybrid estate I could find, including the BMW 3 Series Touring and Volvo V60. I’m talking about over £100 per month less, which is cheaper than either rival.
