A used Fiat Punto is a supermini that gets straight to the point if you want something fun to drive, economical and family-friendly. Although more of a Ford Fiesta or VW Polo rival, the third-generation Grande Punto’s move upscale means it can also be considered an alternative to cars like the Kia Rio. Launched in 1994, the original Fiat Punto has a couple of notable models worth searching in Parkers classified ads. A used Punto 6speed, for example, is cheap to insure, economical and an excellent affordable first car. The Punto Sporting and GT, meanwhile, offer fun handling and hot-hatch performance on a budget, particularly the 1.2-litre 16-valve from 1996-on. If you want a convertible supermini, a used Punto Cabriolet is affordable to insure as well as buy for younger drivers looking to enjoy summer sunshine. The second-generation Punto, from 1999, grew up in size and attitude through a 2003 facelift. Three- and five-door hatchbacks, but no cabriolet, formed the new range, and larger diesel options are available. The third generation of Punto began as the Punto Grande in 2005, before evolving into the Punto Evo and then, just Punto again. One of Britain’s cheapest cars in recent years, you’ll find examples as recent as 2018 registration, but by that stage it was outclassed; compared to other 2006-2010 superminis, though, it’s a roomy and fun car offering great value. Plus there’s a hot Abarth version with up to 180hp. You can find all generations of used Fiat Punto and Grande Punto when you search for your next car with Parkers.
