Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 38 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Fuel economy is probably most buyers’ biggest concern but with an average of 38mpg the Fiesta is surprisingly economical for a hot hatchback. An insurance group of 13 means cover should be affordable compared to more powerful hot hatches and Ford parts and specialist costs are some of the lowest around. In addition the ST brand is well recognised and holds its value well.

It may be a hot hatch but the Fiesta ST isn’t as un-environmental as you’d expect. The 2.0-litre engine emits 177g/km of CO2 – less than rivals like the Corsa VXR and Renaultsport Clio, which makes it reasonable to tax, plus it can beat 40mpg when driven gently.
