Ford Focus ECOnetic: company car

Are you really making a saving?

The Ford Focus Econetic might be a good choice for ordinary drivers when it comes to saving money on the cost of road tax, but whether it is the right car for company car drivers is a different question.

Time for some difficult calculations

Working out the costs of having a company car is a difficult task and I'm not afraid to admit that I had no idea how to do it. Fortunately Parker's has a company car tax calculator which works out all the important costs.

The results from the calculator were surprising. The Econetic version isn't actually the best option. Instead a company car driver will be better off going for the 1.6 TDCi Style model which is slightly cheaper. Both fall in the same tax bracket and you will actually be paying less on the P11D value compared to the Econetic option.

It just goes to show that going green isn't always the cheapest option when it comes to car choices.
