Should you buy one?

If you’re not too worried about efficiency and want something different, then the Genesis G70 is a perfectly decent saloon. It handles very well, yet is comfortable when you’re not in the mood for some fun and has a plush interior. Genesis is offering a hassle-free buying experience, and a similarly easy approach to servicing, with the car being picked up and collected from your home if you prefer to avoid their dealers.

However, the BMW 3 Series remains the definitive sporty executive saloon while offering far more efficient engines, especially if you opt for a plug-in hybrid. The Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz-Class aren’t as fun to drive, yet will be cheaper to run whether you’re a private or business user.

What we like

Genesis has nailed the ride and handling balance of the G70, certainly with the adjustable suspension found on higher spec cars. Regardless of the road you’re on, this is a satisfying car to drive. Interior quality also impresses, while parent company Hyundai know a thing or two about reliability.

What we don’t like

The engines don’t offer particularly good performance and aren’t very efficient. With no hybrid technology on offer, all versions are pricey for company car users, and you have to drive very carefully to top 30mpg in the petrol versions. Space is also on the tight side. Rivals are better at housing a tall adult in the back, especially when it comes to headroom, and the boot is shallow. We’d also point out that while the interior is well made, it looks at least a generation old.
