Parkers overall rating: 3 out of 5 3.0

The Type-R’s construction is sturdy and comes with twin airbags and ABS as standard. However, the security features are sparse and very poor; there are no deadlocks or alarm, with only an immobiliser available as standard. There is a great need to have a Thatcham-approved system fitted, as the Type-R is still sought after and easily stealable; a worrying combination for owners.

As with most Coupes, the Type-R is not designed for family life, as accessibility to the rear seats is made rather awkward by its two-door design. The aerodynamically-scooped roof reduces the space inside the cabin, and the low postured Type-R is ideally designed for two passengers with ample legroom, although younger children should be cosy in the smaller rear seats.

Although the boot capacity is reasonable, the Type-R is unsuitable for ferrying the kids to school or for easy supermarket parking, but it excels itself at high speed and will get you down the motorway in no time.
