A car with a list price of £65,000 can never be described as cheap, but you do get plenty of equipment for the money and compared to other upmarket convertibles the Jaguar is competitive when it comes to running costs. That said, fuel consumption is low at just 25mpg (given the performance that’s not bad) while servicing is expensive, although you can at least expect superb service from Jaguar dealers.

The XK scores badly on the eco front and the 4.2-litre V8 engine emits 269g/km of CO2 and returns 25mpg. However alongside similarly powerful cars it’s competitive. The more powerful 5.0-litre introduced in early 2009 is actually cleaner, emitting 264g/km of CO2 but averaging the same 25mpg.

Jaguar has made great improvements in this area in recent years. A few of the early convertibles we’ve tried had erratic window controls, but these niggles should be ironed out by now. Jaguar continues to score highly in customer satisfaction surveys both in the UK and the US.
