Should you buy one?

The Kia EV6 is an exciting member of the EV club; if you want an interesting car with a dash of sportiness and long range, this one should be in pole position on your shopping list. It’s also clear proof that Kia and its sister company Hyundai are rapidly moving forwards with exciting-looking electric cars that combine contemporary style inside and out, impressive tech, and long-real-world battery range. The rest of the industry needs to catch up.

It’s undoubtedly good, offering a preferable range of talents to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and is up there with the Polestar 2 for appeal. We’ll reserve judgement for now that it’s good enough to topple the Tesla Model 3’s position as our favourite electric large family car.

Add a wide number of models to choose from, a realistic starting price and an engaging driving experience, and the EV6 is looking like a winner. It is certainly a sportier than some of its rivals, but one that’s still liveable every day – and as such, is a great first electric car for those looking to make the jump from petrol, hybrid or diesel.

What we like

The Kia EV6 isn’t cheap and you’re into Tesla Model 3 territory when you plump for the four-wheel drive version, but in no way does it feel like a poor cousin to its the top selling rival. It offers excellent practicality and dynamics in a striking-looking package that reflects the EV6’s status as a pacesetting EV. Wrap that up with Kia’s industry-leading seven-year warranty and it’s difficult to argue against.

What we don’t like

There’s not a lot to count against the EV6, although the touch-sensitive panel for the stereo and climate control system is a bit of a disaster, while the firm ride won’t win it friends who live anywhere with poorly-surfaced roads (most of the UK, to be fair…)
