With the rear seats in place there’s an impressive 958 litres of boot space – that’s only around 40 litres less than the standard Range Rover. The boot itself is wide and thanks to the absence of a load lip, it’s easy to lift heavy or bulky items in and out. The 60/40 split folding rear seats are fairly easy to fold down and this boosts luggage space to more than 2,000 litres while up front there’s plenty of storage with deep door pockets and a large central cubby between the front seats.

All models are also capable of towing trailers up to 3,500kg.

Although it wasn’t crash tested by Euro NCAP, the Range Rover Sport’s safety is predictably good. Fitted with a range of still-modern safety features including eight airbags (head, curtain and thorax) plus dynamic stability control (DSC) and active roll mitigation (ARM) as standard.

The Discovery, on which the Range Rover Sport is based, was awarded a four (out of five) star rating for crash protection by Euro NCAP.
