Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 40 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Although undeniably not cheap, Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG running costs aren’t as bad as you’d think for a car of this sort of performance. Officially the firm states that the car should return 40.9mpg on the combined cycle, but we’d expect closer to 30mpg during real-world driving and far less if you’re enthusiastic with your right foot.

CO2 emissions are 161g/km, which means road tax is a factor you’ll have to think about when budgeting.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG emissions are 161g/km since there’s only one engine and gearbox available. Although fairly low for a performance car, it’s still average in terms of how much road tax you’ll pay as it sits in road tax band G.

We don’t envisage big problems with Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG reliability. The firm enjoys a decent record of reliability over recent years and the A-Class is no exception.
