Should you buy a 2013-2018 Mercedes A-Class?

The 2013 Mercedes A-Class is a very different proposition to its predecessors. This was Mercedes-Benz’s pitch to a much more youthful market, with the stylish lines, sporty interior and dynamic handling (not to mention the firm ride) all bringing in a much younger type of customer.

Such verve means it remains appealing on the used car market, especially those oh-so stylish AMG-Line versions. It’s perhaps not as bulletproof as you’d think a Mercedes-Benz should be, particularly early models; this means it’s important to make all the right checks and ensure the correct paperwork is in place.

But get a good one and the A-Class will serve you well, bringing a little premium-brand spice to your daily driving. Those sporty lines mean it will always remain in demand and be easy to sell on when the time comes, too. A Mercedes-Benz hatch that looks as good as this – what’s not to like?

What we like about the 2013 A-Class

Economical diesel engines, sharp handling and stability, upmarket interiors and plenty of advanced technology on 2015-on models.

What we don’t like

Firm ride (worse for AMG-Line with big wheels), diesels are unrefined, some build quality concerns, track record of AdBlue reliability is worrying.
