MG IM5 verdict

The IM5 offers a genuinely premium feel at a competitive price. It looks sharp inside and out, and the 100kWh version delivers impressive range and performance. Cabin comfort is strong too, especially at motorway speeds where it’s impressively hushed.
What we like
Tech levels are high across the board, with features like four-wheel steering, one-touch parking and active noise cancellation. It’s also easy to drive in town and surprisingly rewarding on twisty roads, especially in the lighter single-motor versions.
We also appreciate MG’s straightforward trim structure and pricing, which makes it easy to find the right version. The IM5’s clean design and big screen layout give it showroom appeal, while the 441-mile range is among the best in class.
What we don’t like
Interior quality is generally good, but a few trim pieces and the touchscreen-only climate controls let it down. There were also some infotainment glitches on our test car, including cruise control not functioning properly.
Boot space trails the best in class and the MG badge still lacks the cachet of Tesla or BYD. A full switch to MG branding might help its chances, but for now, the IM5 feels like a great car in need of a bit more polish.
