What are the running costs?

Like most things, the 911’s running costs will vary significantly depending on how and where you drive it. On the motorway and with its well-spaced gears, it can actually be quite frugal – returning almost 35mpg when one of our testers used it for their commute down the A1. 

But get your foot down and on a fun road and fuel economy will tumble to below 20mpg, which it must be said still isn’t all that terrible for a petrol performance car like this. Don’t be fooled by the hybrid element to it, it hasn’t been done to make the 911 into some eco car. That said, it means that, despite its performance, it shouldn’t end up costing much more to run than the other far less powerful derivatives. 

Servicing and warranty

Despite being one of the more expensive sports car, the 911 offers long service intervals of two years or 20,000 miles, though it’s worth having it checked more frequently than this, and especially before for any longer trips.

New Porsches also come with a three-year warranty with no mileage limit, and you also get worldwide road assistance cover included, which is worth considering if you intend to use the car for European road trips. 

Porsche also offers one of the most comprehensive used car warranties of any manufacturer, offering 12, 24 or 36-month cover when the main new car warranty expires until the car gets to 15 years old. 

Reliability

Though we don’t get have the latest data on the new 911, it’s a car that historically had a good reputation for reliability, It might prove expensive to maintain, yes, but it should prove one of the more dependable sports cars.

It’s worth noting that Porsche has expanded its UK dealer network in recent years, and now has far more sites than other sports car brands such as Aston Martin. There are also plenty of Porsche specialists up and down the country if you’d rather avoid a main dealer. 

From looking at the Porsche forums, owners of the 992 generation model complain of various small rattles and buzzing sounds in the interior, including on the door cards and dashboard. It’s worth listening out for these on a test drive because the exact cause of the noise can be hard to find.
