Porsche Macan boot space, practicality and safety

- Rear legroom improved
- Extra front boot storage
- Low, sporty front seats
How much space is there?
The Macan has an 86mm longer wheelbase than the model it replaced, and that translates to more rear-seat space. Adults will find enough knee and legroom, and six-footers can sit behind six-footers with little complaint. If you regularly carry tall passengers, opt for the panoramic roof – it adds a bit more headroom.
Up front, space is excellent. The driver’s seat drops 28mm lower than in the petrol Macan, giving it a proper sports car feel. The footwells are wide and the door bins are big, with decent cubbies dotted around the cabin for keys, bottles and phones.
It’s a noticeable improvement over rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and BMW iX3, and more family-friendly than the sloping-roofed Polestar 4.
Porsche Macan boot space and storage
The boot has grown in capacity – and there’s now an 84-litre frunk (front boot) for extra cables or soft bags. However, the rakish rear design means taller, boxy items might be a tight fit. That makes the Macan slightly less practical than boxier rivals such as the BMW iX3 or Lexus RZ.
Boot space is rated at 540 litres with the rear seats up, expanding to 1,348 litres when they’re folded. The loading lip is usefully low, and the adjustable floor helps create a flat base for bigger loads.
Interior storage is well thought through, with deep door bins, a spacious glovebox and a usefully sized centre armrest bin.
Is it easy to park?
It’s a wide car, but visibility is decent thanks to a large rear window and slim pillars. Front and rear sensors are standard, along with a reversing camera. Higher trims or optional packs add a 360-degree camera and parking assistance systems.
Auto parking works well, but the basics are so well covered that many won’t feel the need to upgrade.

Safety
- Five-star Euro NCAP
- Matrix LED headlights
- Full driver‑assist suite
The Porsche Macan received the top Euro NCAP rating of five stars in December 2024, with strong scores across all key crash‑test areas. Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, speed limiter alerts and a driver attention monitor.
Matrix LED headlights are available on higher-spec models and provide excellent nighttime visibility without dazzling others. The optional augmented-reality head-up display is genuinely useful, projecting arrows into your view of the road. It’s clever tech, but pricey at nearly £1,700.
In Euro NCAP’s testing, the passenger cell remained stable under frontal impact, and protection was either good or adequate for critical body areas, including knees and femurs. Side barrier and pole impacts were handled exceptionally well, though control of occupant excursion was deemed marginal in the far‑side impact test.
