The Renault Scenic is a small people-carrier based on the chassis of the smaller Megane hatchback. In 1997 it won Europen Car of the Year after a launch in 1996.
Its first iteration was built between 1996 and 2003 and actually called the Renault Megane Scenic. It used a choice of 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 petrol engines along with a 1.9-litre diesel. A facelift in 1999 ushered in a minor redesign.
In 2000 an off-road version called the Scenic RX4 was introduced, using a four-wheel drive system and going out of production in 2003.
Then in 2003 the second generation broke cover, staying on sale until 2009. At this point a seven-seat Grand Scenic was introduced too. Many more practical features were built into this version and its sales told of a very popular people-carrier. In 2006 this model was facelifted, with subtle changes making it a little more distinctive.
