  • Controls and instruments handled by two screens
  • Nice mix of touch controls and buttons
  • Great interior quality and trim materials

How is the quality and layout?

Skoda has pulled out all the stops to get the Enyaq iV right first time, and as soon as you climb aboard, you’ll be left in no doubt that the Czech firm has succeeded. The design is conservative, and the layout reasonably simple, as long as you’re comfortable operating the touchscreen. As well as that, the trims and materials are first rate and this really does feel more premium than the closely-related Volkswagen ID.4.

The speedometer and other vital functions are displayed on a small screen embedded in the dashboard. They offer limited display options, with most necessary information handled by the central 13.0-inch touchscreen. If you want to turn on your seat heaters or adjust the cabin temperature, you’ll need to go via the touchscreen or used Skoda’s oddly named ‘Hey Laura’ voice control function.

But overall, it’s a very usable and friendly interior that’s plush, well-trimmed and comfortable.

Big screen and ease of use distinguish the Enyaq’s infotainment system.

Infotainment and tech

If you’re used to the Skoda Octavia or Superb’s infotainment set-up and design, you’ll find the Enyaq iV highly familiar. That’s not to say it isn’t high tech or desirable – after all, it gets a large central 13.0-inch touchscreen (below) to play with. Don’t expect to jump in and use it without making yourself familiar, but bear with it, as it’s packed with features.

Unlike the Volkswagen ID.4 it’s so closely related to, the Enyaq also has a set of physical controls below the screen. They’re shortcuts for systems like the heating and ventilation, which is still controlled on screen, but at least the Enyaq iV’s screen is large and easy to use on the move.

It works well with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, offering wireless connectivity for both, which makes connecting to and using your smartphone a piece of cake. It’s probably the best aspect of the Enyaq iV’s set-up. However, in the course of our testing the system crashed a couple of times on us – expect Skoda to work hard at rectifying that situation with later system updates. You may prefer to use the built-in navigation as it includes estimated charge at the end of the journey and optimised charging stops en-route.

Lots of room in the rear, but disappointing ride quality back there mars the experience somewhat.

Comfort

  • The Enyaq iV is exceptionally refined
  • Compliant ride quality on all road surfaces
  • Supportive seats make it a great long-distance tourer

We like the driving position, which is commanding, and all the Enyaq iVs we’ve driven so far offer great seat support, especially the alcantara-trimmed Sportline and vRS models. Over the course of an extended 1,000-mile test, the seats offered great support and left the driver feeling fresh after a long day’s driving.

The standard seats are no less comfortable, and alongside the rest of the cabin are offered in an appealing range of trims depending on your test. They do lack a little of the Sportline seats’ side support, but are far from let down in this area.

In the rear, the story is just as good with ample head and legroom, and a high-mounted seat base that gives a great view out.
