Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 36 - 40 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

SsangYong Rexton W running costs are not great with the 38.2mpg official mpg figure trailing far behind the competition. Although the Rexton W is cheaper to buy than most of its rivals, it will cost you more at the pumps.

If you opt for the automatic, there is a slight reduction on fuel economy with the official figure dropping to 36.2mpg.

This pretty poor result could be attributed to the car’s weight and, in the case of the automatic, only having five gears available. Insurance groupings are yet to be confirmed.

While other rivals have managed to significantly reduce CO2 output, SsangYong Rexton W emissions leave it far behind the pack. Carbon dioxide emissions for the range start at 196g/km, climbing to 206g/km for the automatic. These high figures will be quite costly in road tax and BIK tax for business users.

Even the much more powerful 194bhp 2.2-litre diesel Hyundai Santa Fe has lower emissions at 178g/km.

Although the company does not have a bad reputation when it comes to reliability, there is little information to suggest that it is overly strong either. However using a gearbox from Mercedes-Benz helps its case for Ssangyong Rexton W reliability and the car does feel durable inside and out.
