Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 29 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

With average economy of 29mpg and emissions of 230g/km of CO2, the Zafira isn’t a cheap car to run. Consumables such as tyres won’t be cheap and the VXR will certainly get through front tyres at a fair pace if driven quickly. On the plus side, it only needs servicing as often as a standard Zafira – so only needs attention every 20,000 miles. Insurance is group 15.

Zafira performs badly on the eco front. With an average of 230 g/km CO2 across the model line-up, its emissions are a little high for a people carrier. It’s worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. The range is quite thirsty, averaging 29 mpg.

Zafiras tend to be pretty reliable. According to owners of the previous high-performance Zafira, the GSi, problems have been few and far between, and have tended to be very minor.
