Probably the most iconic family car in the history of automotive the original Volkswagen Beetle was also the longest running car in production. The car was first built in 1938 and was designed to provide affordable motoring for the masses.
This first generation Beetle was produced until 2003 and was famous for its cheeky looks (as made famous in Walt Disney’s ‘Herbie’ films) and being powered by an air-cooled motor fitted in the back that powered the rear wheels.
Over the years it has become iconic and prized as a classic car. The German company tried to repeat the success of the original with a modern interpretation that used many parts from the Volkswagen Golf in 1999.
