The Caddy Maxi will Life come with a range of four engine variants from launch. There will be two 1.6-litre TDI engines and two 2.0TDI engines to choose from. The low powered 1.6-litre TDI has a power output of 74bhp while the higher powered version of the same engine has 100bhp. The lower powered 2.0TDI engine comes with 4MOTION (four-wheel drive system from VW) and has a power output of 108bhp while the higher powered 2.0-litre engine has an output of 138bhp.

All these engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox but a seven-speed DSG ‘box is also available.

It has almost got car-like handling that is sure to be well-loved by families who the need the extra room that this vehicle offers. The suspension is borrowed from the Golf/Touran platform so the Caddy deals with corners pretty well. You woudn’t know that the Maxi life was derived from a commercial vehicle because it feels quite nimble and although there is a little body roll when cornering it is a well set up vehicle.
