Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer interior, tech and comfort

- Big quality step up
- Clever panoramic roof
- Huge touchscreen
How is the quality and layout?
Volkswagen was criticised for the low-rent interiors of the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 SUV, but the ID.7 marks a big improvement. Soft-touch plastics, neat stitching and high-quality trim inserts help the cabin feel more premium. Ambient lighting runs across the dashboard and doors, with customisable colours to set the mood.
The layout is clean and minimal, which means fewer physical buttons. While it looks modern, it does mean many basic functions – such as air vents – are buried in touchscreen menus. It’s a sleek design, but one that not all buyers will appreciate.
The panoramic roof is worth highlighting. Instead of a blind, it uses special glass that can switch from clear to opaque at the touch of a button, giving a light and airy feel without overheating the cabin.

Infotainment and tech
The 15.0-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard and is brighter, sharper and quicker to respond than earlier VW systems. Shortcut buttons at the bottom help reduce distraction, but the lack of physical controls for climate settings remains a frustration.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the optional Harman Kardon sound system in the GTX trim adds real punch. There are also downloadable apps and even games to help pass the time while charging.
A small digital driver’s display is standard, but the augmented-reality head-up display is the real highlight. It projects navigation arrows, speed and driver assistance info directly into your line of sight.
Comfort
- Supportive front seats
- Generous rear room
- Massaging seat option
Front seats are some of the best in the class, with lots of electrical adjustment and extendable bases. All models come with massaging functions, which are great for long journeys. Higher trims add heating and ventilation, making them usable all year round.
Rear seats are just as impressive. They’re wide and supportive, with enough space for tall adults to sit comfortably. Optional heating is available in the GTX trim, which is a welcome luxury for family buyers.
