Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 34 - 35 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Volkswagen Scirocco R averages an impressive claimed 34.9mpg - that's identical to the SEAT Leon Cupra R. Servicing costs and the price of consumables will be slightly expensive when comparing to some rivals but the levels of service from VW dealers are normally very good. The Scirocco R falls into a high insurance group of 34E.

The Scirocco R emits 182g/km of CO2 emissions and this puts it in VED band J while showroom tax will be high for this model.

Volkswagen has a strong and well-deserved reputation for reliability and the Scirocco should live up to that expectation. It's based on the Golf so we expect problems to be few and far between.
