Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 34 - 35 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

The Volkswagen Scirocco R averages a claimed 34.9mpg that’s identical to the SEAT Leon Cupra R. Servicing costs and the price of consumables will be slightly expensive when comparing to some rivals, while the Scirocco R fell into a high insurance group of 34E at the time.

The Scirocco R emits 182g/km of CO2 emissions and this put it in VED band J at the time, along with high showroom tax when it was new.

Volkswagen has a strong reputation for reliability and the Scirocco should live up to that expectation. It’s based on the Golf so we expect problems to be few and far between, with the last recall in 2016 relating to the airbag and seatbelt tensioners not triggering. The VW dealership should be able to check which models were affected and whether the appropritate work was carried out.
