Volvo V50: Simplified line-up

Volvo has been revising the structure of its range with the introduction of new, more fuel-efficient versions of its DRIVe models.

It means the model I've been running has been modified on price lists to read simply as 2.0 R Design rather than R Design Sport.

R Design styling remains available on SE models, and is also available on low-CO2 DRIVe versions, making them stand out with a slightly more purposeful look.

This is good from Volvo's perspective, because since R Design was launched in the V50 range in 2007 it has boosted the brand's appeal among company car drivers and these versions have also become desirable as used cars.

I'll deal with the depreciation and costs of the car I've been driving in a later update, but we've noticed handsome premiums for R Design cars on the used market compared with those cars without the styling kits.

In the meantime the V50 diesel is providing sterling service - very comfortable on long journeys and surprisingly agile when it comes to country lanes.
