  • Screen-heavy dashboard
  • Great infotainment tech
  • Patchy quality below eye level

How is the quality and layout?

Audi interiors are usually a cut above, and while this one looks good, the quality isn’t consistent. Soft-touch plastics and fabric trims impress up top, but scratchy door bins and lower plastics feel out of place in a car costing more than £60,000.

The dashboard layout is minimalist, dominated by three screens – a large central display, digital driver’s display and a third screen for the passenger. There are very few physical buttons, with most controls moved to the touchscreen.

It looks high-tech and modern, but some will find it too reliant on touch – especially when driving. The steering wheel buttons are touch-sensitive, too, and not as intuitive as the old scroll wheels. We need to call out the touch panel for the lights that’s mounted on the door panel – it’s poorly sited and impossible to use without taking your eyes off the road.

Infotainment and tech

The main 14.5-inch infotainment screen is sharp, responsive and well laid out, with intuitive menus and slick animations. The driver display is functional but lacks the clarity of Audi’s earlier Virtual Cockpit systems.

Passenger display aside, you get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, plus a wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C ports. The system updates over the air, and navigation includes charging stops on long routes.

Heating and ventilation controls sit on the lower part of the screen, which is better than hiding them in submenus – but not as easy as physical dials. A rotary volume controller is a welcome touch, though.

Comfort

  • Front seats are comfortable
  • Rears could be better
  • High floor compromises seating position

The front seats offer plenty of adjustment and support, with heating and electric adjustment on most trims. S Line and Edition 1 models also offer sports seats with extra bolstering.

Rear-seat comfort isn’t quite as impressive due to the high floor, which affects leg angle and thigh support. Headroom is good for the class, but rivals like the BMW i5 Touring offer more space overall.
