How much space is there?

The Audi E-Tron GT has a reasonable amount of interior space for four people, with good legroom in the rear thanks to a clever battery design that carves out a ‘foot garage’ for each passenger. That said, the sleek roofline does eat into head room for taller people in the back, while seating three on the rear bench is a real squeeze.

For those used to roomy SUVs, the E-Tron GT is a bit of a culture shock. Getting in and out of the front isn’t particularly easy due to the narrow door apertures, and the car’s low-slung stance. It’s the same story in the rear, where you’ll be clambering through a relatively small opening, and once in foot space still isn’t generous.

You’ll find the same compact interior dimensions in the Porsche Taycan. If you want something more spacious, the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQS and BMW i7 are all much more spacious saloons.

Boot space and storage

There are two boots – one in the front, which at 81 litres is big enough for a squashy overnight bag (or all of your charging cables) plus the main luggage compartment in the rear.

This is the same size and shape as the Porsche Taycan’s at 405 litres (a little more than a Volkswagen Golf, in fact) and has a couple of deep cubbies near the wheels for small items that may roll around.

The boot goes back quite a long way but it’s very tall so you might struggle with odd shaped items – however, suitcases and golf equipment will be fine.

Is it easy to park?

The E-Tron looks dramatic and generously proportioned, and it’s born out in its dimensions. It’s 4,989mm long (about the same as an Audi A8) and 2,158mm wide, so trying to squeeze it into typical UK-sized parking spaces is a bit of a challenge.

Luckily, it has all of the parking aids you’d ever need, which include parking radar front and rear, as well an excellent 360-degree camera system, which helps get you into those tight spots without too many troubles.

Audi hasn’t had the E-Tron GT tested by Euro NCAP – however, the Porsche Taycan upon which it is based was given five stars in 2019. It would be better to wait for this car to be tested rather than relying too heavily on those conclusions, of course.

As standard you get Audi’s pre-sense front and basic, which help detect and mitigate incidents in front of the car, and a lane-departure warning system. That’s not a comprehensive list for a car this expensive, and here’s where it gets a bit confusing.

Options like adaptive cruise assist, intersection assist and the surround view camera are part of the ‘Tour’, ‘City Assist’ and ‘Parking Assistance’ packages. All three are included in assist package plus, which is standard for the E-Tron GT Vorsprung and RS E-Tron GT Carbon Vorsprung. The latter also gets a night vision assistant and a head-up display.
