Toyota is introducing a new five-year warranty in a bid to reassure customers that it is confident about the reliability of its cars following a number of recalls to fix faults.

The extended cover will be provided as standard on all new Toyota cars purchased in the UK from June 1. The move is designed to head off any doubt potential customers have about Toyotas after the Japanese company issued recalls to correct faulty brakes and accelerators.

The extended cover follows Toyota's Your Choice, Our Promise campaign where new car buyers were offered the choice of an extended warranty or three years' free servicing.

Miguel Fonseca, Toyota GB managing director, said: 'Our new five-year warranty is tangible evidence of our commitment to quality and to our customers - both those who are loyal to the brand, and those who are considering switching to Toyota for their next car.

'By taking this major initiative we are giving our customers complete peace of mind. We want to reassure them that, in choosing a Toyota, they are getting the best in quality, reliability and durability.'

The announcement coincides with a major new advertising campaign called Your Toyota is My Toyota featuring Toyota workers who explain the personal pride they take in their work.

The new five-year/100,000-mile manufacturer cover is over and above the existing three-year/60,000-mile warranty offered by Toyota.
